Slippery Rock Invitational and National Mention

The Wolverine Cross Country teams return to action Saturday at the Slippery Rock Invitational. The meet will be held at Cooper's Lake Campground. Directions may be found on Cooper Lake's website: Click here Once on the website click on Directions in the Menu Bar along the top. Among the teams competing will be the host school, whose men are ranked eighth in the nation in Division II, Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Geneva College. In the last two Invitational meets in which the Slippery Rock men have competed, the John Papa coached harriers have taken the first five places in the race.

The women will run at 11:00 and the men at 11:45. The meet is close-by, so please come out and support the Wolverines! For those who like to figure out how best to follow the runners on the course, maps of the mens 8000 meter and womens 6000 meter courses will be found here: Click here for Course Maps

The courses that will be run on Saturday will be the home of the NCAA Division II National Championships in 2008.

In the USTFCCCA Association National rankings (Click Here), 35 teams are listed in numerical order, and then they list additional teams that received votes. This week, the Grove City women received votes and would have been 38th if they continued to number the schools that far.

To qualify for the Division III Nationals this year, a team must either finish in the top two in the Regional Meet, or be one of 16 teams selected based on a number of factors. To qualify to be considered for one of the 16 slots, a team must be ranked in the top 5 of their Region. The full requirements will be found on pages 10-11 of the NCAA Handbook for these championships (Click here).
