Womens Preview for Regionals with Disclamers

The regional rankings for the Mideast Women going into the Regional Final on November 10 follow. All of these teams have competed in their conference championships, and we report below the results of the top runners for each team (coming shortly). The danger in doing so, of course, is that cross country courses are so different, you cannot compare the results of one team accurately with the results of another team in another race. However, several of these teams ran in the same conference race. A full proper analysis would need to look at when these teams ran against each other in other races, such as when most of the teams competed the same day at the Brooks Paul Short Run at Lehigh. Complicating this is the process of peaking where the earlier results of some teams may not be indicative of where they are at presently, if the timing of the peaking has been done well by the coach. The final disclaimer is that there are teams that do better in conference races than they do in larger races, which are more star-driven. Having a good first runner is important, but having a poor fifth runner at this level becomes devastating. Spread is also an important concept (time differential from first to fifth runner).
Analysis: Dickinson is a clear and heavy favorite. Another great year for Coach Don Nichter's squad. There are two automatic qualifiers for the region, and it would appear as if four teams have a legitimate shot at second on a good day (Haverford, Johns Hopkins, Grove City and Allegheny).

Ooops, you forgot Etown in your preview. Looking at results the past four years it should be pretty obvious they have the peaking thing down when it comes time for this race!
